After returning from vacation in New York, I felt disappointed, thinking I would never find a pastrami/brisket sandwich as good in LA. I searched and tried a few places, but they all let me down. But then I lucked out by finding this place. Holy crap! It's comparable to what I had in New York. I ordered the full pastrami brisket sandwich and, just for kicks, got an order of the burnt ends. The meat was 20/10 and completely satisfied my craving and exceeded way above my expectations. The only downside is the location. Parking is a hassle, and the neighborhood is a little questionable. Also, my pictures do not give this place the credibility it deserves.
It's gentrified, not the same food, not the same prices, not the same customer service, make sure if you want your meat cooked to let them know, they now serve alcohol, they have an outdoor seating that's not bad. Always check your order before leaving the window, for some reason the people who work there always seem to get my order mixed up, they even got my online order mixed up
I ordered takeout on the Holiday today and my order was ready at exactly the time promised . My steak was well done and silverware & napkins were inside the box without me asking. Only blemish was they forgot the normally standard lettuce & tomato for my sandwich.
hear ye hear ye my dudes! so I happened upon Johnny's because I confused it with Johnnie's in culver city, my mistake I must admit but no problems. this johnny's place SLAPS! rolled up and got the fries and pastrami sandwich. both are quite heavy but no issue as I was fiending for some meats! fries are easy to share in my humble opinions and the brisket in it is tasty and adds depth to the crinkly cut fries (my favorite as the extra grooves pack more flavor, that's basic geometry surface area for you!). pastrami sandwich...hmm VERY flavorful if I can remember but hard to remember as I finished it in a few seconds, it was that good! p.s. group next to me was talking about video games and mentioned stardew valley. I'm a big fan! made my day eavesdropping on them, good vibe!
First time visited, the lady cashier was very nice friendly , she said "Thank you for coming!" It's very rare to hear this from the cashier! She made me feel great when me and my boyfriend were leaving. Their patio looks very nice and they have extra kinda hidden patio is next to it. And... food?? Omg! Their pastrami sandwich is the best of best pastrami sandwich I ever had!! Very thick pastrami! It's like very tender yummy steak is in your sandwich! Also I highly recommend Johnny fries!! Its very very tasty and lot of pastrami on it!! Problem is .. can't finish all. I will definitely come back for try others from the menu!!
Johnny's Pastrami offers delicious burgers, sandwiches and sides , but what makes it extra fun is the outdoor seating and bar! It 's a fun space to gather with a large crowd - lots of shareable sides (chicken tenders, onion rings, fries). The Johnny's fries were delicious - comes loaded with cheese, pastrami bites, and their special sauce. The citrus and thai basil drink was so light and refreshing and helped with the greasiness of the food.
Ayo! Ok I'm back at another review Yelp Fam! Question? Why in the Hell did it take me so long to come to Johnnys?!? The pastrami is one of the best here in LA. I ordered the half Rueben Sammie and let me tell you, BaeBey! Dis right here was 10's across the board. Thick cuts of juicy moist succulent pastrami that had a hint of smokiness and some fat marbled into it was so good. The russian dressing, melted cheese and coleslaw on marbled rye bread all worked so well together. I ordered the potato salad as a side which was Mid. Don't forget to ask for the house made pickles and peppers. The other star of the moment was the Banana Cream Pie with Caramel sauce and toasted almonds with a flaky buttery crust. You can not leave without this. Plenty of outdoor seating. Street and paid parking lot is avail. Come check this place out!
So, what I'm about to say may sound crazy. It may sound like I dont know what I'm talking about. But here's the thing, my wife and I are foodies from Philly, and I've been living in LA for 3.5 years now. I've had some food that was lacking basic seasoning like salt, and I've also found places with incredible flavor profiles, presentations, prices, etc. With all that being said, in our opinion, Johnny's has the best tasting food that we've had - not just in LA, but ever! Especially from a BBQ food POV, if you've ever had Terry Black's in Austin, TX, I say this beats them (and they our fave BBQ spot in the county). We had the BBQ brisket sandwich (12/10), the Johnny Burger (8.5/10), the French Dip Pastrami sandwich (8/10), and last but not least - the Pastrami Fries (20/10)!!! If you're ever in LA, check them out. If you can only eat one menu item, get the pastrami fries. Those are too incredible. Enjoy!
Located on a main road in Los Angeles, this spot is serving up some of the freshest French dip pastrami I have ever had. The spot is cozy and warm with beer on tap and cocktails to serve. This is a great spot for dates or just a great place to hang out with some friends. The service was 10/10 and would highly recommend everyone to check this place out! Order: French dip pastrami with a side of pickles and peppers Comments: the only reason I'm not giving a 5 star is because you do have to pay extra for certain condiments that are usually given for free. (Au Jus for 0.65, extra pickles for 0.50, jalepnos for 0.50)
Had the most wonderful experience yesterday at Johnny's. Some friends and I braved the storm to watch the Grammys and eat some pastrami and drink some drinks. Apparently nobody else had the same idea because we had the whole place to ourselves. The bartender even changed multiple TVs to the Grammys for us and turned the volume on. We ate, we drank, we cheered for Taylor Swift and Victoria Monet. Beautiful singing voice that one. The chicken sandwich was very good - though I would have preferred one patty over two tenders that kept falling out. The pastrami fries were also great too, though crinkle cut is never my favorite. The burnt ends were more like seared chunks of meat. Not really "ends" but you won't find me complaining. Besides these personal preferences of mine though I was very happy with all of the food. I was very happy with my drinks and the service too. I had a few of their Hot Things -- essentially a hot toddy -- that were much sweeter than I would have thought. Very yummy! I also tried a couple of their vampiros which I remember liking but was a bit tipsy by this point. I just wish they had a proper happy hour, I think this place would be even more popular during their afternoon off-hours. Still a great experience that I will remember for a long time.
